The Tonga National Sevens Team showcased their talent at the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger Series 2025, held on 1 and 2 March at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa.
Under the guidance of Coach ‘Atieli Pakalani, the team faced tough opponents in the tournament’s opening round. The competition featured 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams from around the globe, each vying for a spot in the HSBC SVNS Play-off in Los Angeles scheduled for 3-4 May.

The tournament kicked off with intense matches, as teams battled for early dominance. Germany, Chile, Samoa, and Canada emerged with two victories each, securing their places in the semi-finals.
Chile’s men’s team clinched the title, defeating Canada 33-7 in a decisive final. On the women’s side, Kenya emerged victorious with a 17-12 win over Argentina. Both teams set a high standard for the series, which will continue with the second round in Cape Town on 7-8 March.
