Suliana Mausia from Tonga is among the 11 women selected for the 2024-25 Pacific Women Leaders in Tennis program that was recently launched in Nadi, Fiji this month. The program, now in its third year, is a professional development initiative by Tennis Australia and the Australian Government through PacificAus Sports.
Suliana, who began playing tennis at 10, was inspired by her older brothers who competed in the Pacific Games. She later competed in international tournaments in Fiji, Samoa, and American Samoa. Now, her focus is on growing tennis in Tonga and supporting the sport’s development at the grassroots level.
During the launch, participants engaged in leadership workshops and training sessions aimed at empowering them to take on roles in sports administration across the Pacific. Suliana’s participation marks a significant step for Tonga’s representation in tennis leadership.
The women will continue their training through online courses before gathering again in Melbourne next year, where they will celebrate their program completion at the 2025 Australian Open.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase the presence of women in leadership positions within Pacific sports, creating inclusive environments for future generations.
