The Tonga Meteorological Services (MET) has issued an update on Tropical Disturbance “TD02F,” located near latitude 16.2 south and longitude 171.6 east, approximately 1,500km west-northwest of Nuku’alofa, Tongatapu.
At 12:00 noon yesterday, January 1, 2025, the disturbance was tracked with little risk of developing into a tropical cyclone.
“The potential for this system to develop into a Tropical Cyclone in the next 24 hours is very low,” said the Meteorological Services in their announcement.
The system is not expected to pose any threat to Tonga within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The authorities continue to monitor the disturbance closely and urge residents to stay updated on weather reports.
No immediate action is required for now, as the situation remains low-risk for the islands.
