U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened tariffs on Russian oil imports, escalating tensions over the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
The Kremlin responded on Tuesday, stating that despite Trump’s remarks, Russia continues to engage in dialogue with the United States. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the complexity of the discussions and the efforts required.
Trump’s frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin stems from the prolonged four-year conflict in Ukraine. He hinted at imposing additional sanctions if Moscow obstructs the peace process.
The potential for secondary tariffs on Russian oil has introduced uncertainty into global markets. Brent crude prices have experienced modest gains, reflecting traders’ cautious approach as they assess the likelihood of Trump’s threats materializing.
Despite the heightened rhetoric, both nations appear committed to finding a resolution. Peskov emphasized ongoing collaboration and the readiness for further communications if needed.
