US President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to tackle what he described as “transgender lunacy” during a speech at the AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
Addressing young conservatives, Trump outlined policies he plans to implement immediately after taking office.
“I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, remove transgender individuals from the military, and prevent them from entering our elementary, middle, and high schools,” he said.
He also promised to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports and said, “It will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.”
The agenda marks a return to policies overturned during the Biden administration, including Trump’s 2018 ban on openly transgender military personnel, which was rescinded in 2021.
With Republicans poised to control Congress, Trump’s proposals are expected to advance a conservative agenda on LGBTQ issues.
