Timote Akositaine Fonokalafi has made history as the first recipient of the Australia-Tupou Scholarship for Academic Achievement, marking a milestone in the 158-year relationship between Tupou College and Australia.
Australian High Commissioner Batley presented the scholarship to Fonokalafi, who achieved top honours in Tupou College’s inaugural Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams under the New South Wales curriculum.
High Commissioner Batley expressed pride in the achievement, calling it “another special moment in the long history between Tupou College and Australia.”
The scholarship, awarded to the highest-performing student in the international education stream, covers tuition and living expenses for an undergraduate degree at an Australian or regional university.
Fonokalafi will join 27 Australia Awards scholars in 2025.
