The Biden administration has issued a stern warning to Iran regarding potential military actions against Israel, signaling a diminished capacity to restrain Israeli responses.
A U.S. official told Axios, “We won’t be able to hold Israel back, and we won’t be able to make sure that the next attack will be calibrated and targeted as the previous one,” highlighting concerns over Iran’s possible retaliation from Iraqi territory following recent Israeli strikes.
The communication, reportedly conveyed through Swiss intermediaries, reflects a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
An Israeli official noted that any Iranian attack’s scale would determine Israel’s response, indicating readiness to engage even in the event of strikes originating from Iraq.
On October 26, the Israel Defense Forces targeted military sites within Iran, citing continuous threats, which resulted in the deaths of at least four Iranian soldiers.
This followed Iran’s missile assault on Israel on October 1, a response to the killing of key military figures linked to Hamas and Hezbollah.
Iran is reportedly preparing a substantial retaliatory strike involving drones and ballistic missiles ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election on November 5.
The situation remains volatile, with the White House declining to comment on the developments.
