Two major health initiatives were launched yesterday in Tonga to boost immunisation and women’s health services.
The Ministry of Health marked the start of Immunisation Week at Fa’onelua Centre, focusing on the urgent need to combat preventable diseases.

Acting CEO of Health, Dr. George ‘Aho, and education officials attended the launch, reinforcing cross-sector support for vaccinations.
Despite ongoing concerns around vaccine misinformation, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the health of all Tongans.
Meanwhile, a Cervical Cancer Guideline Development Workshop was launched at Tanoa Hotel, with Health Minister Hon. Dr ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola urging attendees to work with “passion and purpose—for the women of Tonga.”
Dr. Patelisio closed the event with a message of inspiration, quoting Melinda Gates: “When we invest in women’s health, we are investing in the strength of our families, communities, and nation.”
The Ministry hopes both programs will lead to tangible improvements in healthcare access and outcomes, particularly for vulnerable groups.
These initiatives form part of broader national efforts to strengthen Tonga’s health system and promote preventative care.
