Town Officers in Vava’u have participated in essential Tropical Cyclone Preparedness Briefings, aimed at strengthening community resilience for the upcoming 2024/2025 cyclone season.
The briefings were organized with the support of the Tonga Red Cross Society (TRCS), the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO/NDRMO), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Key topics covered included the 2024/2025 Cyclone Outlook, presented by Tonga Meteorological Services, outlining potential risks for the season.
TRCS provided an update on their disaster response services, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized gender safety and protection during emergencies.

Training was also given on Initial Damage Assessment, equipping Town Officers with essential skills for effective disaster reporting.
Evacuation centers were also confirmed for use during emergencies, and updates were made to Village Disaster Risk Management Committees.
These briefings are part of ongoing efforts to enhance preparedness and ensure safety across Vava’u during the cyclone season.
