Vava’u claimed a historic 1-0 victory over Central District in the inaugural Talent Development Scheme (TDS) Major Tournament, held at the Loto-Tonga Soccer Centre.
The final, played on Friday, marked Vava’u’s debut in a competition that previously focused on Tongatapu’s TDS Centres. A penalty converted by Siaki Lonitenisi of ‘Utui secured the win. Central District fought strong, with captain Tevita Falepapalangi spearheading multiple attacks, but Vava’u’s defense stood firm.
Chairman of the Technical Department, Timani Naniseni, commended Vava’u’s performance, calling it a “well-deserved victory.”

General Secretary Lui ‘Aho announced plans to make the TDS Major Tournament a biannual event, citing its success.
Vava’u coach Fetuli Tulanga expressed pride in his team’s achievement. “This victory is a result of tireless effort and dedication,” he said.
Tournament MVP Lonitenisi highlighted the team’s determination: “We came here with a mission. Vava’u never backs down.”
