Borehole drilling has begun in Navutoka as part of an important water system upgrade funded by the Government of Japan. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable water supply to the village.
The project started two weeks ago and represents a significant step toward improving water infrastructure. By tapping into underground water sources, the community will have a more reliable and steady supply of clean water, addressing long-standing issues of water scarcity.
“The upgraded water system will significantly enhance the quality of life for Navutoka’s residents, ensuring access to safe and clean water throughout the year,” TWB stated.
The initiative is funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). Japanese Ambassador to Tonga, His Excellency Mr. Hisao Inagaki, expressed his support, saying, “We are committed to supporting communities like Navutoka in achieving sustainable access to safe water. This project represents a significant step towards improved health and quality of life for the residents.”
The Tonga Water Board (TWB), alongside the Navutoka Village Water Committee, is managing the project. TWB’s Engineering Manager, Mr. Quddus Fielea, and his team are overseeing the drilling process.
The community eagerly anticipates the benefits of this project, which promises long-term improvements to their daily lives.
