The Tonga Meteorological Services (TMS) has issued a series of weather warnings for land areas as a trough remains stationary over Ha’apai, Tongatapu, and ‘Eua. A strong wind warning is currently in effect for the Niuas, while Vava’u, Ha’apai, Tongatapu, and ‘Eua are under gale warnings, heavy rain warnings, and flash flood advisories.
According to the TMS, the trough is expected to extend to Vava’u by tomorrow and persist until Saturday. This situation could lead to heavy rainfall, strong to damaging gale-force winds, and isolated thunderstorms affecting the central and northern islands.
The forecast for Tongatapu and ‘Eua includes moderate southeasterly winds turning strong overnight, with heavy rain and possible flooding in low-lying areas. Vava’u and Ha’apai are expected to experience similar conditions with strong winds and heavy rain.
Coastal warnings are also in effect for various regions, including a heavy damaging swell and gale warnings for Vava’u, Ha’apai, Tongatapu, and ‘Eua.
