The Tonga National Visual Impairment Association (TNVIA) will lead a public walk today to mark World White Cane Day.
The event, titled “Walk with us for World White Cane Day 2025”, runs from 5 pm to 6 pm on the seawall at Hala Vuna. Participants are asked to wear a white T-shirt and dark glasses as a gesture of solidarity.

This awareness walk comes ahead of planned discussions in the Pacific “parliament meeting in Caribbean” framework, a regional forum focusing on disability inclusion and mobility rights, where Tonga is expected to raise issues of visual impairment support.
Last month, TNVIA launched a mobility training initiative supported by the Australian government aimed to encourage greater independence within the vision-impaired community.
TNVIA celebrated its 10th anniversary during last year’s White Cane Awareness Day.
Advocates hope the walk and regional engagement will prompt stronger national policies on accessibility, inclusive infrastructure, and funding for adaptive mobility training.
