Digicel Tonga has launched its first six 5G sites, marking a milestone for the country’s digital transformation.
Residents in Kolomotu’a, Fanga, Pili, Kolofo’ou, Ma’ufanga, and Ma’ufanga Wharf with compatible 5G devices are the first to benefit from the technology, promising faster speeds and enhanced mobile experiences.
“We’re excited to bring 5G in Tonga, unlocking a world of possibilities. We’re building on the strong foundation of our 4G network to usher in a new era of connectivity with 5G,” Digicel CEO Daniel Horan said.
“This launch isn’t just about faster speeds, it’s about delivering an exceptional experience for our customers in Tonga.”
Early tests showed speeds between 550-600Mbps, with potential to reach up to 1Gbps. While 5G is available in select areas, customers outside these zones will automatically switch to 4G or 3G networks.
The Tonga Telecommunications Corporation has launched its 5G network too.
