Three arrested in drug raids on Tongatapu, major seizures reported.
Tonga Police’s Drug Enforcement Unit arrested three people after raiding homes this week in Fua’amotu, Nuku‘alofa and Fasi, seizing cannabis, methamphetamine, cash and paraphernalia.
Police fficers arrested a 38‑year‑old man in Fua’amotu, confiscating 63 cannabis plants, 686 g cannabis leaves, 0.12 g methamphetamine, drug utensils, a mobile phone and $390.
The same day, a 24‑year‑old female, a 15‑year‑old female (both from Fasi) and a 55‑year‑old male from Kolofo‘ou were detained, with police seizing 18.81 g cannabis, 0.81 g methamphetamine, a passport and $127 cash.
A further operation in Fasi resulted in the arrest of a 42‑year‑old male from Mataika, with seizures totalling 22.17 g methamphetamine, 12.23 g cannabis, utensils and $680 cash.
All suspects remain in custody. Police investigations continue.
These raids follow earlier efforts by Tonga Police, including last month’s arrest in ‘Ananā, underlining the force’s intensified drug‑targeting strategy.
A 10 July report highlighted a substantial 98.8 % drop in meth seizures this year, a success attributed to tougher enforcement.
