Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Tongan Prime Minister Dr ‘Aisake Valu Eke met on the sidelines of the TROIKA Leaders gathering, marking their first bilateral engagement.
The leaders discussed enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity, defence, climate resilience, and people-to-people links.
Prime Minister Rabuka welcomed Tonga’s interest in establishing a diplomatic mission in Fiji and reaffirmed commitment to regional unity.
“I am committed to continuing Tonga’s leadership role in the region and I look forward to working with colleague Leaders, to advance the regional priorities of the Pacific Islands Forum,” said Dr Eke.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of a Development Cooperation Agreement to align their nations’ priorities strategically.
They also endorsed the ‘Ocean of Peace’ concept, promoting unity and stability across the Pacific.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a resilient and sustainable future for Pacific peoples.
