The Legislative Assembly of Tonga has postponed the session to table the Motion for a Vote of No Confidence in Prime Minister Sovaleni from December 3 to December 9, 2024.
The postponement follows the Prime Minister’s request for an extension to submit a written reply to the motion.
Originally due by 12 noon today, the Lord Speaker has granted an extension until 12 noon next Wednesday, December 4th.
The decision to delay was approved through a resolution circulated among Members of Parliament.
The Chief Clerk of the Legislative Assembly confirmed the revised schedule follows the legal timeframe specified in clause 50B of the Constitution and parliamentary rules.
The motion, a notable moment in Tonga’s political landscape, will be addressed when Parliament reconvenes on December 9.
