Ata Maama Tu’utafaiva has made history by winning gold in the women’s shot put at the Pacific Mini Games 2025. Her massive throw secured the top spot on the podium, delivering a proud moment for the Kingdom.
“Ata delivered a golden moment for Team Tonga — rising to the top of the podium and making the Kingdom proud,” the Tonga Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) said in a statement.
The victory contributed to Tonga’s final medal count of 15: three gold, six silver, and six bronze. This result placed Tonga 17th on the overall medal tally.
Tahiti dominated the Games with 70 golds and a total of 137 medals, followed by Samoa with 27 gold and 61 medals in total.
The Pacific Mini Games, held this year in Palau, brought together top athletes from across the region. Tonga’s performance was praised by local supporters and sports officials alike.
The national team is expected to return to Tonga this week, with celebrations planned to honour the athletes’ achievements.
