A Tongan parliamentary delegation has participated in the 2025 Global Parliamentary Forum in Washington, D.C.
Deputy Speaker Lord Tu’iha’angana led the delegation, accompanied by MPs Hon. Dr. Viliami Latu and Hon. Dulcie Tei, at the forum held from April 22–23. The event, part of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings, convened around 200 legislators from across the globe to engage with senior officials on pressing development issues.
A highlight of the forum was a townhall discussion featuring World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, providing parliamentarians an opportunity to discuss economic challenges and policy responses.
The forum addressed critical topics such as slow economic growth, rising national debt, and the transformative role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of work and sustainable development.
In parallel, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke led a government delegation to the broader Spring Meetings, engaging with global finance leaders on economic resilience and multilateral cooperation.
