Tonga Police have arrested a 41-year-old man from Lapaha following the seizure of 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine last Friday.
The raid, carried out on December 13, involved the Drugs Squad and the Tactical Response Group. The suspect has been charged with possession of illicit drugs and is currently in custody awaiting further proceedings.
Tonga Police praised the public’s support in ongoing drug enforcement efforts. “It is through this cooperative effort, that together, we can defeat the scourge that all types of drugs bring to our communities across the Kingdom,” Tonga Police said in a statement.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown on narcotics in 2024, with authorities focused on disrupting drug trafficking networks and reducing substance abuse.
This latest arrest goes to show the growing collaboration between law enforcement and the community to combat the rising threat of methamphetamine in Tonga.
