Tonga Police are investigating the suspected suicide of a 15-year-old girl from Tatakamotonga.
Authorities responded to the incident and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. In a statement, they expressed condolences to the grieving family, saying, “We extend our condolences to the family during this difficult time to find comfort in their tragic loss.”
This is the first case of suicide for this year.
Suicide is a leading cause of death among adolescents globally. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, it ranks as the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 15 to 24.
The World Health Organization reports that the global suicide rate among 15-19-year-olds is 7.4 per 100,000, with males at 10.5 and females at 4.1.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not released further details.
