A two-month-old baby is Tonga’s youngest confirmed dengue case.
Health officials have confirmed 10 new dengue cases, pushing the national total to 445. The mosquito-borne illness is now present across all main island groups.
Vava’u remains the worst affected, recording 246 cases. Tongatapu has 149, followed by ‘Eua with 49. Ha’apai, until now untouched, has confirmed its first case.
The Ministry of Health says a two-month-old infant has tested positive — the youngest patient in the current outbreak. The most affected age group overall is between 10 and 19 years old.
Ten people are currently hospitalised across four facilities: six at Prince Ngu Hospital, two at Vaiola, and one each at Niu’eiki and Princess Fusipala. All are reported to be in stable condition.
No deaths have been linked to the outbreak so far.
The outbreak has been identified as caused by Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2), known to cause severe illness, especially among children.
Health authorities are urging communities to remove stagnant water and protect against mosquito bites to reduce further transmission.
Officials continue to monitor the spread closely as the virus advances across the kingdom.
