The Ministry of MEIDECC’s Department of Communications has issued a warning regarding the unauthorized resale of Starlink terminals in Tonga. The statement highlights that only Digicel Tonga and Wantok are authorized distributors of these devices.
The illegal sale of Starlink terminals poses risks to consumers, who may be misled into buying non-compliant or malfunctioning devices. The ministry pointed out the legal consequences for those involved in such activities. Offenders face fines up to $10,000, imprisonment of up to four years, or both.
“These measures are in place to protect consumers and ensure that all telecommunications services meet safety and quality standards,” the statement reads.
Residents and businesses are urged to purchase Starlink terminals only from authorized sellers like Digicel Tonga or Wantok to ensure proper support and compliance with local laws. The public is encouraged to verify the credentials of sellers before making purchases.
