The cruise ship, Celebrity Eclipse, visited Nuku’alofa for a day, arriving with more than 3000 passengers and crew on Friday14 April.
The Central Business District was buzzing with tourists who were seen visiting handicraft stalls at Vuna Wharf, while others visited shops, cafes and the market. Some took tour buses to see landmarks outside of the capital.
The cruise ship brought a total of 3933 people, including 2754 passengers arriving from Lautoka, Fiji in the morning.
The Ministry of Tourism stated today this is the seventh cruise to visit Tonga this year. Ten more cruise ships are expected to visit for the rest of the year, bringing much needed tourism back to Tonga, after the COVID lockdown affected the tourism industry.
The Celebrity Eclipse was expected to depart Tonga for Vanuatu.
